Popular Animation Companies that You Shouldn't Support and why
MAPPA
(Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association)
Mappa is based in Japan and they are an Animation studio for their hit anime “Jujutsu Kaisen”
- MAPPA consistently overworks their staff; many MAPPA workers work 12-15 hour days 5 days a week. For comparison, animation artists should be working 8 hours or less.
- The time it usually takes for an animation team to make an animated movie is roughly 1-2 years, however MAPPA gives their animation team only 4-6 months.
- MAPPA has absolutely no consideration for their new-hires. Many MAPPA workers are thrown into a tight schedule and grueling work hours directly after being hired
Sony Picture Animations and Colombian Pictures
Sony and Columbia Pictures collaborated on the very popular movie “Spiderman into the spider-verse”.
During the production of “Spiderman across the spider-verse” the true colors of these two studios came into light
- During the production of “Spiderman across the spider-verse” over 100 animation artists quit the project due to “horrible working conditions”. These horrible working conditions the animators faced consisted of toxic
environments, sexual harassment, exploitation, overwork, and underpay.
- This isn't Sony pictures animation and Colombian pictures first offense, like MAPPA they have a history of mistreating their employees with overwork and high stress working environments

However Animation artists who work for disney have been facing poor working conditions and overwork since the early days of the franchise.
